😧How to Manage Anxiety When it Feels Overwhelming 😩

Hey Reader

I’m so excited to connect with you today! I truly love creating these solo episodes where we dive into ways to better manage anxiety. Why? Because, as much as we wish anxiety would disappear, it’s not going anywhere. I get it—we all want it gone. But since that’s not an option, learning to manage it is key.

In this episode, I continue exploring the seven puzzle pieces from the book Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents. We’ll be tackling another piece of the puzzle today, building on everything we’ve discussed so far to help you put it all together. At the end of this, you'll have a full toolkit of techniques to use when anxiety strikes.

One of the big challenges of anxiety? The physical sensations. You know, that sick feeling in your stomach, the headaches, the urge to run to the bathroom. It's no wonder we want to avoid things that trigger those responses! But here’s the catch: avoiding anxiety triggers can cause us to miss out on life.

This episode is all about resetting that alarm system in our bodies—that fight, flight, freeze, or fawn response. It’s not that we want to shut it off completely because it’s essential for survival, but we do want to dial it down when it’s overreacting to non-life-threatening situations.

And how do we do that? Well, it starts with something simple, yet powerful: breathing. You’ll hear me walk through a few breathing techniques that you can use anywhere—at your desk, in class, in the car—whenever those uncomfortable sensations start to show up. These techniques can calm you down before the anxiety ramps up to the point where it feels unbearable.

Breathing is a tool we have control over. It’s something we can focus on when everything else feels out of control. In this episode, I’ll show you how to use your breath to manage anxiety before it spirals, and trust me, it’s something you can start practicing today.

Take a listen and let me know how it’s going for you! Have you tried any of these techniques? I’d love to hear what’s working or if you have any questions.

You’re not alone in this. We’re in it together, learning, practicing, and managing.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Warmly,

Cynthia

P.S. I can help you by teaching these skills to your child!

Hi Everyone, I’m thrilled to introduce you to this week’s incredible podcast guest, Kristi Simons! Kristi and I just recently connected, but it felt like the universe had already brought us together. I’d been admiring her work on social media for a while—her podcast, posts, and everything about her energy really caught my eye. Hey Reader Just wrapped up another episode of The Teen Anxiety Maze, and I couldn't wait to share it with you. I dug into something we all deal with: avoidance. You know that thing on your to-do list that keeps getting pushed to tomorrow? Yeah, that one. We talked about why we do that and how it might be linked to anxiety. Here's the scoop: We all avoid stuff. It's not just you. Avoiding things feels good... for about five minutes. Then it usually makes us feel worse. Try this: Instead of "I...
