🚒Helping Teens Who Feel Like They're "On Fire" 🔥

Hey there!

BTW, My podcast was 4 years old yesterday! I can't believe I have been talking to you every Tuesday for 4 years!!! I still have a lot to say, so stay tuned!

I'm super excited to tell you about my latest podcast episode. I sat down with Katie May, a licensed therapist who specializes in helping teens dealing with some really tough stuff - depression, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.

Katie shared some eye-opening insights:

  • She described how some teens experience emotions so intensely, it's like they're "on fire." Meanwhile, adults often respond with dismissive comments like "You're fine, just take a walk." Yikes! No wonder there's tension.
  • Katie emphasized how crucial it is for parents to stay calm and regulated themselves. If we freak out, our teens get the message that we can't handle their big emotions.
  • She talked about her parent membership program, where she teaches skills to help parents better support their struggling teens. (Even if you're not in Pennsylvania where her practice is located!)

One thing that really stood out to me was Katie's passion for working with teens. She gets that they're not just "older children" or "tiny adults" - they're their own special group that deserves understanding and support.

Whether your teen is dealing with major challenges or just seems a bit less happy lately, this episode has some great takeaways. Katie's approach of teaching both teens AND parents new skills sounds like a game-changer.

Want to learn more? Check out Katie's book "You're on Fire, It's Fine" or her parent membership program.

Let me know what you think of the episode. And remember, if you're struggling to connect with your teen, you're not alone. There are amazing people like Katie out there ready to help.

Talk soon,

Cynthia

“You need to be able to demonstrate that you can handle what your teen is showing up with because if you're reacting, if you're freaking out, if you're panicking, your teen's going to get the message, "Oh, mom can't handle this. I can't go to her with these big, important things. ”

Then, in perfect timing, she reached out to me, and I knew instantly that we had to collaborate. What I didn’t know about Kristi until we talked is that she’s a former...

Hey Reader Just wrapped up another episode of The Teen Anxiety Maze, and I couldn't wait to share it with you. I dug into something we all deal with: avoidance. You know that thing on your to-do list that keeps getting pushed to tomorrow? Yeah, that one. We talked about why we do that and how it might be linked to anxiety. Here's the scoop: We all avoid stuff. It's not just you. Avoiding things feels good... for about five minutes. Then it usually makes us feel worse. Try this: Instead of "I...
